As an OfferingTree user, we ask you to confirm that you are not located in the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA). Why do we ask you to do this? It’s because of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that took effect on May 25, 2018. Rec. 23 Art. 3(2) of the GDPR states that “The GDPR applies to organisations established outside the EU if they … process the personal data of EU residents when offering them goods or services.” The GDPR is also being incorporated into the European Economic Area (EEA) Association Agreement, which includes the signatory countries of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and thus includes people located in those countries. There is currently still a lot of grey area regarding the scope, interpretation and implementation of the GDPR.
As a very small U.S.-based public benefit company who offers services to our users in the United States, we do not currently have sufficient resources to comply with the new requirements of the GDPR and thus do not offer services to persons located in the EU or EEA. We hope that with sufficient time, our tiny team will be able to meet the requirements of the GDPR and offer services to everyone. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work towards this goal.
EEA stands for the European Economic Area, which includes Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and the countries of the European Union (EU): Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
